ATLANTA, GEORGIA,UNITED STATES, November 16, 2023, the Georgia Public Health Association served as the host affiliate for the 2023 APHA Annual Meeting and Expo held November12-15 at the World Congress Center. The annual meeting is one of the largest and most influential public meetings in the world. More than 12,000 public health experts participated in the 2023 Annual Meeting and Expo, virtually orin person.
Ms. Borghi’s leadership was both strategic and paramount in forging a strong team effort between the HHCGA and the Georgia CEAL’s COVID-19 pandemic response. The HHCGA in direct response and “Best in Practice” for all vaccinations, chronic diseases, mental health and other SDOH indicators which impacts pandemics which further exposed the importance of the HHCGA’s impactful mobilization to the underserved population in the State of Georgia.

Santiago has continuously led the field efforts to ensure access by underserved communities to COVID-19 vaccinations and dissemination of important vetted education on COVID-19, chronic diseases, other pandemias, and mental health as a true servant of the HHCGA. Santiago is a lead to the HHCGA team and neuroscientist with great expertise, represented the HHCGA mission asa key panelist for efforts to support our undeserved communities, focusing on the importance of resilience and sustainability of field activities to bring about improve health outcomes.

The APHA Annual Meeting aimed to enhance networking among public health professionals, bolster public health competencies, and showcase the successes and learnings from the NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL).

Shirley E “Bella” Borghi and Dr. Tabia Henry Akintobi played critical roles. Additionally, Julian Santiago Ramon led as the CommunityOutreach Engagement Director for HHCGA.

Over 12,000 public health experts attended the event, and there were provisions for both in-person and virtual participation.

The conference focused on the NIH Community Engagement Alliance's (CEAL)successes, shared lessons learned, and discussed promising practices in public health.

HHCGA, under the leadership of Shirley E “Bella” Borghi and with Julian Santiago Ramon's field management, provided vaccines and vital health information and resources, including medical students, public health students, nursing student, pharma students and annexes from Emory University,Georgia State University, University of Georgia, and Morehouse College, directly to the underserved populations.
